What we clean.

Schools ask a lot of a cleaning crew in a short window. Desks by the hundred, student restrooms in constant use and gym floors scuffed by every PE class all need resetting between dismissal and the next morning, and Arbor cleans private, charter and parochial campuses on that clock.

After dismissal, the crew works through classrooms, restrooms, gyms, offices and hallways, emptying bins, wiping desks and touch points and cleaning floors. Winter break, spring break and summer are when the bigger jobs happen: stripping and refinishing hallway tile, extracting classroom carpet and deep cleaning gyms and multipurpose rooms.

After the last bell.

School cleaning starts once students leave. Classrooms come first, with bins emptied, desks and tables wiped, whiteboard trays cleaned and floors swept, mopped or vacuumed. Restrooms are cleaned and restocked from fixtures to floor, and the front office, staff room and nurse’s office get the care of any well-kept office.

Gyms, cafeterias and multipurpose rooms take the heaviest floor traffic and get their floors cleaned on every visit, with hallways and entries done last on the way out.

Science labs, art rooms and the library each get their own notes in the plan, so the crew knows which surfaces to wipe and which projects to leave alone.

Breaks and summers.

The school calendar sets the timing for bigger work. Winter and spring breaks suit carpet extraction in classrooms and libraries. Summer is the window for stripping and refinishing hallway and classroom tile, deep cleaning gyms and resetting every room before the new year.

Planning those projects early means the building is ready for the first day, with floors cured and furniture back in place.

Schools across our area.

Private, charter and parochial schools in Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Elk Grove, Davis and Stockton each run on their own calendars, with games, performances and evening meetings that bring people back after hours. Plans account for those, so a back-to-school night or a weekend tournament does not leave restrooms in poor shape on Monday.

During the school day, a day porter can keep restrooms stocked and handle spills in the cafeteria. Every cleaner on a campus route is background-checked, a step administrators expect from anyone holding keys to classrooms.

School cleaning costs compared with office space

Schools price at or slightly below the office band of $0.15 to $0.24 a square foot each month that spans our area in published 2026 rates. Classrooms are large and alike, so a crew moves through them at a steady pace, and gyms and multipurpose rooms add a lot of open floor that cleans quickly. Student restrooms work the other way. They take more time than office restrooms, and a campus with many of them climbs back toward the office rate.

Consider a 42,000-square-foot private K-8 campus in Rancho Cordova with 24 classrooms, a gym, a library and ten restrooms, cleaned every school night. At $0.14 a foot, term-time service comes to $5,880 a month. After-school programs that keep rooms busy past six, cafeteria cleanup and evening events push the figure up. Breaks bring lighter nightly service, while summer adds strip-and-refinish and carpet extraction as their own lines. We walk the campus with your facilities contact and set term and break pricing in a written plan and quote. Our cost guide includes a summer refinishing example.

A few useful answers

Common questions

Does Arbor work with private and parochial schools?

Yes. Private, charter and parochial schools get a plan built around their campus and calendar.

When does deep cleaning happen at a school?

Over breaks and the summer, when floors and carpet can be done without students on campus.

Can a porter help during the school day?

Yes. A day porter keeps restrooms and the front office tidy and handles spills while classes are in session.

Can cleaning work around evening events on campus?

Yes. Visits shift later on event nights, or an extra early-morning visit resets restrooms and the gym before classes.

What should a school share before the walkthrough?

The bell schedule, the event calendar, building access details and any rooms that need special care, such as science labs or the nurse’s office.

Can gym floors be cared for over the summer?

Yes. Gym and multipurpose room floors get a deep clean during the summer break, timed around any refinishing work.

A building that stays ready starts with one walkthrough.
